Our Approach (from our founder Dr. Kourtney)

There is a moment in almost every visit, class or workshop where a woman looks at me and says some version of the same thing. “I know something is off, but all my labs were normal.” Or “I’ve been told this is just part of getting older.” Or my personal favorite, “Everything looks fine, but I don’t feel like myself.” That is usually where our work begins.

My practice is rooted in traditional allopathic medicine. I am trained as an OB GYN and I use that training every single day. I diagnose. I treat. I prescribe when it is appropriate. I respect the science and the structure of Western medicine because it saves lives and it matters.

But I also know where it falls short.

There is a large space between “you are fine” and “you are in crisis,” and most women live in that space for years. Hormones shift long before labs flag anything. Metabolism slows while weight gain is dismissed. Sleep changes, mood changes, cycles change, and the answer is often either reassurance or a prescription that only partially addresses the issue. That is not enough for me, and it is not enough for the women I take care of.

So my approach expands beyond that framework.

I practice functional medicine, which means I am asking different questions. Not just what is happening, but why it is happening. Not just what lab value is out of range, but what patterns are emerging over time. I am looking at hormones, metabolism, inflammation, gut health, detoxification pathways, and genetics as part of a connected system rather than isolated problems.

At the same time, I incorporate botanical medicine and evidence based supplementation in a way that is thoughtful and targeted. Not a long list of things to try, but specific interventions that match your physiology and your current phase of life.

My training in Ayurveda and yoga adds another layer to how I see the body. It brings attention to rhythm, stress, nervous system regulation, digestion, and the way lifestyle quietly shapes physiology over time. This is where we talk about how you are living, not just what you are taking.

And then there is the piece that ties it all together, which is a deep focus on midlife women’s health.

Perimenopause, menopause, and post menopause are not single events. They are transitions that affect nearly every system in the body. Hormones, yes, but also metabolism, cardiovascular health, bone density, brain function, sleep, mood, and long term disease risk. This is also the window where longevity is shaped in a very real way.

In addition to my board certification in obstetrics and gynecology I am also board certified in obesity medicine, which means I approach weight, metabolism, and body composition with the same level of rigor as any other medical condition. No shame. No oversimplified advice. We look at insulin resistance, hormonal drivers, appetite signaling, and energy balance in a way that actually makes sense for your body.

All of this comes together in a model of care that is more comprehensive and, frankly, more honest. We are not trying to fix everything in a single visit. We are building a strategy. We start with your story, fill in the gaps, and then create a plan that may include targeted labs, deeper functional testing when needed, and a sequence of interventions that build on each other over time.

Sometimes that includes prescriptions. Sometimes it includes hormones. Sometimes it includes nutrition, movement, stress work, and sleep as primary drivers of change. Most of the time, it includes a combination but it always includes is context.

You will understand what is happening in your body and why we are doing what we are doing. You will not be handed a generic plan and sent on your way.

This is a self pay practice because this level of care does not fit neatly into an insurance model. It requires time, attention, and a different kind of thinking. It also allows me to practice medicine the way it was meant to be practiced, which is focused, individualized, and not rushed. This means that if you are looking for a quick prescription or a single answer, this may not be the right fit and that’s okay. There are many providers out there that can provide that for you.

However if you are ready to understand your body in a deeper way, to address the root causes of what you are experiencing, and to build a plan that supports where you are now and where you are going, then you are in the right place.

This is not about chasing perfection. It is about creating alignment in your physiology so that you can feel like yourself again and move into the next phase of your life with clarity, strength, and intention.
