Functional & Integrative Medicine for Women in Texas with a different way to approach women's health
If you've ever felt like there should be more to your healthcare than treating one symptom at a time, you're in the right place.
Dr. Kourtney Sims provides physician-led functional and integrative care for women throughout Texas who want to better understand the connections between their hormones, metabolism, nutrition, gut health, lifestyle and overall well-being.
As a board-certified OB-GYN, obesity medicine physician, menopause specialist and functional medicine physician, Dr. Kourtney brings together conventional medicine with functional and integrative approaches to create a more comprehensive way of looking at women's health.
Whether you're navigating hormonal changes, struggling with your metabolism, entering perimenopause or menopause, living with a complex women's health condition, or simply looking for a more proactive approach to your health, care begins by looking at the bigger picture.

Areas of Care
Functional & Integrative Medicine
Sometimes symptoms don't fit neatly into one diagnosis or one body system. Functional medicine looks more closely at the relationships between your symptoms, health history, nutrition, metabolism, hormones, gut health, lifestyle and other factors that may be influencing how you feel.
Depending on your individual needs, your evaluation and care may include conventional laboratory testing, specialty functional testing, nutrition and lifestyle strategies, supplements or botanical medicine, and prescription treatment when clinically appropriate.
Perimenopause, Menopause & Hormone Replacement Therapy
Hormonal changes during midlife can affect much more than your menstrual cycle. Sleep, mood, energy, body composition, sexual health, cognition and metabolic health can all change during the menopause transition.
Dr. Kourtney provides individualized perimenopause and menopause care, including evaluation for hormone replacement therapy when appropriate, while also considering the nutritional, metabolic and lifestyle factors that influence health during this stage of life.
Weight & Metabolic Health
Weight is more complicated than calories and willpower.
Our physician-led approach to weight and metabolic health considers nutrition, body composition, insulin resistance, hormonal changes, thyroid function, sleep, movement, medications and other factors that may make maintaining a healthy weight more difficult.
Medical weight-management options may be incorporated when appropriate, but the goal extends beyond weight loss to improving metabolic health, preserving muscle and creating strategies that support long-term health.
Thyroid Health & Optimization
Thyroid health can influence energy, metabolism, body temperature, mood, digestion and many other aspects of how you feel.
Rather than looking at a single laboratory value in isolation, Dr. Kourtney considers symptoms, laboratory findings, medical history, nutrition, metabolic health and other factors that may contribute to thyroid function and overall wellness.
Women's Health Through a Functional Lens
Dr. Kourtney's background as an OB-GYN also brings a uniquely women's-health-focused perspective to functional medicine.
Women living with conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, fibroids, menstrual concerns and other hormonal or gynecologic conditions may be interested in exploring how nutrition, metabolic health, inflammation, gut health, lifestyle and other functional factors intersect with their condition.
Functional and integrative medicine doesn't require choosing between conventional and holistic care. Instead, the goal is to understand where each approach may have value and create a more complete picture of your health.

What Virtual Specialty Care Does Not Replace
Virtual specialty care with Dr. Kourtney is not a substitute for having a local primary care physician or gynecologist. Patients should maintain local care for preventive examinations, Pap testing, breast and pelvic examinations, acute gynecologic concerns, infections, pregnancy care, procedures, imaging and conditions requiring hands-on examination or ongoing general gynecologic management.

More Than "Normal" Labs
You've probably heard some version of this before:
"Everything looks normal."
But knowing that a result falls within a laboratory reference range doesn't always answer the question you came in asking: Why don't I feel like myself?
Functional and integrative medicine allows us to step back and look for patterns across your symptoms, history and health data rather than evaluating each result in isolation.
When appropriate, this may include looking more closely at hormonal patterns, metabolic health, nutritional status, thyroid function, gut and microbiome health, inflammation, lifestyle factors and other areas that may provide additional context.
The goal isn't to order every test available or chase an "optimal" number. It's to determine which information is actually useful in understanding your health and deciding what deserves attention.
Is This Approach Right for You?
The Holistic Collaborative may be a good fit if you're looking for a physician who can combine conventional medical knowledge with functional and integrative approaches—and you're interested in understanding more than simply what medication corresponds to a diagnosis.
You may especially appreciate this approach if you want to better understand your hormones and metabolism, are navigating perimenopause or menopause, have struggled with weight despite making meaningful lifestyle changes, want a more comprehensive look at thyroid health, are interested in nutrition or functional laboratory testing, or want to explore complementary approaches alongside conventional medical care.
Our approach is collaborative. Rather than promising to uncover one hidden "root cause" behind every symptom, we work to identify the factors that may be contributing to your health concerns and determine which ones are meaningful and actionable.
How Virtual Care Works for Texas Patients
You don't have to travel to Houston to work with Dr. Kourtney. Eligible patients located in Texas can receive specialty care through secure telemedicine visits from home. Patients who are located in Houston and the surrounding area also have the option to see Dr. Kourtney in person if indicated.
Depending on the reason you're seeking care, your evaluation may include review of your medical history, symptoms, previous laboratory results and treatments, along with additional testing when appropriate. Your care plan may incorporate conventional medical treatment alongside nutrition, lifestyle, supplements, botanical approaches and other functional or integrative strategies when appropriate.
Because this is specialty virtual care, patients should maintain a local primary care physician and gynecologist for preventive care, physical examinations, acute concerns and conditions requiring in-person evaluation.
